The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced a return to tradition with the iconic red carpet for this year’s Oscars ceremony.

Last year, the Academy made headlines with a champagne-colored carpet that broke away from the traditional red. The decision was made due to the introduction of an orange (or sienna) tent over the carpet to protect attendees from a forecasted rainstorm. The color change was necessary to prevent a clash with the tent, according to red-carpet creative consultant Lisa Love.

After considering options like a chocolate brown carpet, the Academy settled on the champagne color, inspired by the calm and peacefulness of watching the sunset on a white-sand beach at the ‘golden hour’ with a glass of champagne in hand. However, the decision was met with skepticism as the 50,000-square-foot rug proved challenging to keep clean.

The colorful carpet trend has been sweeping premieres, galas, and award ceremonies in recent years, with events like the Emmys featuring a gray carpet and the world premiere of “Barbie” in pink. Red carpets have been a staple since 1922, but stylists have faced challenges with the color not always being flattering and clashing with dresses.

The return to the traditional red carpet for this year’s Oscars ceremony is sure to bring back the classic glamour and elegance that has been synonymous with Hollywood’s biggest night. Stay tuned for more updates on the star-studded event.
