The Pittsburgh Steelers have made a major move, sending veteran wide receiver Diontae Johnson to the Carolina Panthers, according to a report from ESPN. This trade involves Johnson and a seventh-round pick heading to the Panthers in exchange for defensive back Donte Jackson and a sixth-round pick.

The Panthers, who had a disappointing 2-15 record last season, are looking to bolster their offense around quarterback Bryce Young, the No. 1 overall pick of the 2023 NFL Draft. With the addition of Johnson, the Panthers hope to provide Young with more reliable targets, as their passing attack was the worst in the league last season.

Johnson, who spent his first five NFL seasons with the Steelers, had a standout year in 2021, earning a Pro Bowl selection after catching 107 passes for 1,161 yards and eight touchdowns. However, his production dipped in the 2023 season, prompting the Steelers to make this trade.

On the other hand, Jackson brings a wealth of experience to the Steelers, having started 76 of his 80 games since 2018 with the Panthers. He has recorded 303 combined tackles, 14 interceptions, and 46 passes defended during his time in Carolina.

This trade signifies a new chapter for both Johnson and Jackson as they join their respective new teams. It will be interesting to see how they adapt to their new surroundings and contribute to their teams’ success in the upcoming NFL season. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
