Political Opposites Find Love and Harmony in Washington
Caroline Marie Darmody and Jared Joseph Jones may have started off on opposite sides of the political aisle, but their love story proves that differences can be bridged and harmony can be found, even in the divisive world of Washington politics.
Their story began in February 2016 during an orientation session for a staff delegation trip to India. Ms. Darmody, a legislative assistant for Democratic Representative Joseph P. Kennedy III, and Mr. Jones, working for Republican Senator Shelley Moore Capito, found themselves drawn to each other despite their political differences.
After a successful first date at Bier Baron Tavern in Dupont Circle, their relationship blossomed. However, challenges arose with Ms. Darmody’s acceptance to Harvard Law School and the strain of a long-distance relationship. They eventually broke up in 2018 due in part to their differing political views.
Ms. Darmody decided to go on 50 first dates to find someone more aligned with her beliefs, but it was Mr. Jones who stood out among the rest. His unwavering support for her dreams and ambitions won her over, leading to their reconciliation in 2022.
Their love story culminated in a beautiful wedding at the historic Army and Navy Club, where their diverse backgrounds and experiences came together in a celebration of unity. Despite their differences, Ms. Darmody and Mr. Jones have found common ground in their love and respect for each other.
