Atlanta Lawyer Claims “Vindication” in Effort to Remove District Attorney from Trump Case
In a dramatic turn of events in the Georgia election interference case involving former President Donald J. Trump, Atlanta lawyer Ashleigh Merchant claimed “vindication” on Friday for her efforts to have Fulton County district attorney Fani T. Willis removed from the case.
Merchant, representing one of Trump’s co-defendants, led the charge to disqualify Willis on the grounds of a financial conflict of interest due to her relationship with the lawyer managing the Trump case, Nathan J. Wade. Despite Judge Scott McAfee ruling that Willis could stay on the case, he criticized her judgment and stated that Wade must withdraw or Willis must step down.
