Barbara Walters’ Iconic Wardrobe on Sale in Manhattan Showroom
The late Barbara Walters, renowned TV news anchor and trailblazer in broadcast journalism, was known not only for her formidable interviewing skills but also for her impeccable sense of style. This week, pieces from her iconic wardrobe were on display and up for sale at a showroom in Midtown Manhattan, drawing a crowd of women in media eager to snag a piece of history.
Walters’ wardrobe, which spanned her illustrious career, featured everything from classic black sheaths and pearls to bold, colorful suits and flamboyant gowns. Items donated by her estate were available for purchase, with proceeds going to Shop Repurpose, an organization that supports students and young people entering the workforce.
Among the standout pieces were a chromium yellow Oscar de la Renta jacket, a peach-toned coat with pearl buttons, and a scarlet Roberto Cavalli skirt with a snake-embossed waistband. Prices ranged from $700 to over $2,000, prompting some shoppers to pause at the steep cost.
One such shopper, Paula Froelich, a senior story producer and entertainment correspondent, eyed an orange Burberry coat but found it a bit too big for her liking. Despite the fit, she couldn’t deny the coat’s appeal, noting that it would have given her “street cred” at the office.
The event not only showcased Walters’ timeless style but also served as a reminder of her groundbreaking career in journalism. As shoppers sifted through racks of clothing, they couldn’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia for a woman who made a lasting impact on the industry.
