Lil Nas X Takes on NYC Half Marathon in Coach High-Tops
In a surprising turn of events, rapper and singer Lil Nas X decided to take on the United Airlines NYC Half Marathon this past weekend, despite having little to no experience with long-distance running. The request came in the form of an email to the New York Road Runners, the organization behind the event, just days before the race.
Accompanied by Roberto Mandje, a senior adviser for the New York Road Runners, Lil Nas X crossed the finish line after 13.1 miles in 2 hours, 32 minutes, and 53 seconds. Despite his lack of training and unconventional choice of footwear – Coach high-top sneakers – Lil Nas X powered through the race with determination and a sense of humor.
Throughout the race, fans and fellow runners alike were surprised to see the chart-topping artist among the participants. Despite some discomfort in his feet due to the heavy sneakers, Lil Nas X pushed through and even joked about stopping at a Foot Locker to buy proper running shoes.
In the end, Lil Nas X celebrated his accomplishment by posting a photo on Instagram with his finisher’s medal, showing that he was proud of his unconventional journey through the NYC Half Marathon. While it remains to be seen if this will be the start of a new running career for the artist, one thing is for sure – he certainly made a memorable impression on the race and its participants.
