A powerful winter storm is brewing in the Plains and Upper Midwest, set to bring heavy snow and gusty winds across multiple states through Tuesday. The National Weather Service has issued warnings of hazardous travel conditions and potential blizzard conditions in some areas.

Winter storm warnings are in effect for several states, including Minnesota, Montana, North Dakota, Nebraska, South Dakota, Wisconsin, and parts of Colorado. Forecasters predict at least eight inches of snow to fall in various regions, with some areas expecting over a foot of snow.

Blizzard warnings are set to go into effect for parts of Colorado and Nebraska, with travel restrictions in place for emergencies only. The Monday morning commute in eastern Nebraska is expected to be treacherous due to reduced visibility and slick roads from blowing snow.

In addition to heavy snowfall, wind gusts of over 50 miles per hour in the Central and Southern Plains could lead to dangerous travel conditions, power outages, and property damage. There is also a risk of wildfires in parts of Oklahoma and Texas due to the dry weather and strong winds.

Over 150 flights in and out of Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport have already been canceled or delayed, with more disruptions expected as the storm progresses. This storm follows closely on the heels of another recent snowstorm that swept through the Northern Plains to the Great Lakes over the weekend. Stay safe and stay informed as this potent storm continues to unfold.
