Tragedy Strikes as Six Migrant Workers Presumed Dead in Baltimore Bridge Collapse
In a heartbreaking turn of events, six migrant workers are presumed dead after a Baltimore bridge collapse on Tuesday. The men, who were employees of the construction company Brawner Builders, were working to support their families back in their home countries, according to a fellow employee.
Jesus Campos, who has worked at Brawner Builders for about eight months, spoke of the difficult situation facing many of his co-workers. “We’re low-income families,” Campos said. “Our relatives are waiting for our help back in our home countries.”
The senior executive at Brawner Builders, Jeffrey Pritzker, confirmed that all of the missing workers were presumed dead, given the amount of time that had passed since the collapse. Pritzker described the victims as “wonderful family people” and expressed his condolences to their loved ones.
The construction crew was working on repairing the bridge’s roadway when it was struck by a ship, leading to the tragic collapse. The company’s owner has been deeply affected by the incident and has been meeting with the families of the missing workers.
One of the missing men, Miguel Luna, was confirmed to be an immigrant from El Salvador. Luna, who had been living in Maryland for at least 19 years, leaves behind a wife and three children. The Guatemalan foreign affairs ministry also confirmed that two of the workers were Guatemalan nationals.
As the community mourns the loss of these hardworking individuals, officials continue to investigate the cause of the bridge collapse. The construction company, Brawner Builders, has been in operation since 1980 and is known for its work on various infrastructure projects.
The tragic incident serves as a reminder of the risks that many migrant workers face in order to provide for their families. Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of the victims during this difficult time.
