The stock market has been on fire in the first three months of 2024, with the S&P 500 index soaring more than 10 percent and hitting 22 record highs. Investors are pouring billions of dollars into US stocks, driven by optimism that the Federal Reserve will be able to bring inflation down without harming the economy.

The rally has not been limited to traditional stocks, with Bitcoin reaching new highs and mergers and takeovers on the rise. Even riskier corners of the financial markets are seeing increased activity, as investors show confidence in the outlook for corporate America.

However, not everyone is convinced that the good times will last. Concerns are growing about cracks in the economy, such as rising consumer debt and an increase in company defaults. The Russell 2000 index, which tracks smaller companies, has also seen a more modest increase compared to the S&P 500, highlighting the dominance of big tech companies driving the market higher.

Despite these warning signs, the market continues to climb, fueled by strong earnings, low interest rates, and robust consumer spending. As one expert put it, “Stocks are working for people right now, but I just wonder how long until we run into some trouble.”

With a handful of tech giants leading the charge, the stock market shows no signs of slowing down. As long as the economic fundamentals remain strong, investors can expect the market to keep pushing higher.
