Canadian Punjabi music artist reflects on winning award and the impact of the “Punjabi wave”

In a recent interview, Canadian Punjabi music artist shared his thoughts on winning a prestigious award and the unique blend of Canadian and Punjabi sounds that has defined his career.

The artist, who remains humble about his success, expressed his surprise at winning the award, stating, “I didn’t even know if I’d be winning this award. I was going to be happy anyway, but when they announced my name and I got up — that moment, I’ll remember for the rest of my life. It was amazing.”

He also discussed the influence of Canada on his music, saying, “Canada has played a big role in my career. Combining the Canadian and Punjabi sounds together, it creates this different genre that we didn’t know we would end up with.”

Reflecting on his past job as a longshoreman at the age of 19, the artist shared how the experience shaped his career, stating, “That job was great for my career, and my sisters thought it would be good for me and my future, but they didn’t know what I was doing about music. I had to just focus on one thing.”

When asked about the support he has received from the Canadian music industry, the artist expressed gratitude, saying, “Canada gave me lots of support. Maybe in the future I’ll be doing collaborations with some Canadian artists, too.”

Finally, the artist discussed the current “Punjabi wave” in music, stating, “I’m just happy I’m a part of it, and that I’m the one that brought it to this level, and a couple of other Punjabi artists who are working on the same thing. We’re just doing it for the culture, and I feel like it’s all coming together now. It’s great to witness that.”

With his unique blend of sounds and dedication to his craft, this Canadian Punjabi music artist continues to make waves in the music industry.
