Title: President Biden Trails Behind Trump in Latest Poll, Facing Doubts Within Democratic Party

President Biden is facing challenges within his own party and dissatisfaction over the nation’s direction, as a new poll by The New York Times and Siena College reveals. The poll shows Biden trailing behind Donald J. Trump just as their general-election contest is about to begin.

With only eight months left until the November election, Biden’s 43 percent support lags behind Trump’s 48 percent among registered voters nationally. The poll highlights concerns about Biden’s leadership, with more voters believing his policies have hurt them than helped them. Additionally, a majority of voters think the economy is in poor condition, further impacting Biden’s approval ratings.

The poll also indicates weaknesses within the Democratic coalition, particularly among women, Black, and Latino voters. Trump has managed to unify his party better than Biden, despite an ongoing primary contest.

Democrats remain divided about the prospect of Biden leading the party again, with opposition strongest among voters younger than 45 years old. Trump’s ability to consolidate the Republican base is evident in the poll, with him winning a significant percentage of past supporters who are not backing Biden.

Overall, both Biden and Trump are unpopular, with Biden having a 38 percent favorable rating and Trump at 44 percent. The poll also reveals that Trump’s policies are viewed more favorably by voters compared to Biden’s.

Despite the challenges Biden faces, the Biden campaign remains optimistic that polling will narrow as the election approaches. The return of reluctant Democrats to their usual partisan patterns is seen as a potential turning point for Biden’s campaign.

The poll was conducted in late February and surveyed 980 registered voters nationwide. The margin of sampling error for the presidential ballot choice question is plus or minus 3.5 percentage points among registered voters.
