The streets of New York City were abuzz with excitement this past week, not just because of an earthquake and an eclipse, but also due to a sighting of a sasquatch in Central Park. But before you start packing your bags for a Bigfoot expedition, hold on – it turns out the sasquatch was actually a costume worn as a publicity stunt for the new film “Sasquatch Sunset” by the Zellner brothers.

The movie, which opens in New York on Friday, follows a sasquatch pack consisting of a male and female sasquatch, played by Nathan Zellner and Riley Keough, and two younger sasquatches, portrayed by Jesse Eisenberg and Christophe Zajac-Denek. The film delves into the daily lives of these mythical creatures as they navigate the wilderness, facing challenges like predators and mortality.

Described as a mix of Jack Link’s beef jerky ad campaigns, the 1987 comedy “Harry and the Hendersons,” and a 1970s nature documentary, “Sasquatch Sunset” promises to be a droll yet heartwarming cinematic experience.

Curious about the making of the film, we caught up with the cast and crew to get some behind-the-scenes insights. From the inspiration behind the movie to the challenges of portraying sasquatch characters, the team shared their experiences and preparations for the unique project.

With costumes made of foam latex and hair crafted from a combination of synthetic and yak hair, the actors had to endure some discomfort during filming. However, their dedication to the roles shone through, with Jesse Eisenberg even working with a movement coach to perfect the sasquatch’s distinctive grunts and calls.

Despite the unconventional nature of the film, the actors found it to be a deeply moving and humorous exploration of the human experience through the lens of these mythical creatures. And while the movie may not be suitable for all ages due to its nudity, the Zellner brothers believe that “Sasquatch Sunset” has something to offer to a wide range of audiences.

So, if you’re in the mood for a one-of-a-kind cinematic adventure that combines humor, heart, and a touch of the wild, be sure to catch “Sasquatch Sunset” when it hits theaters this Friday. Who knows, you might just find yourself rooting for these lovable sasquatches as they navigate the ups and downs of life in the wilderness.
