Longtime Pittsburgh Steelers star defensive lineman Cam Heyward is not thrilled about the cameras that will be following the team throughout the 2024 season. In a recent interview on the “Not Just Football” podcast, Heyward expressed his disdain for being featured in the popular docuseries.
Heyward, a six-time Pro Bowler, voiced concerns about the potential negative impact the show could have on the Steelers’ locker room dynamic. He specifically mentioned the possibility of private conversations being aired without proper context, potentially painting his teammates in a negative light.
“The locker room is the locker room, and I just don’t want that getting messed up. There’s so many inside jokes, so many people,” Heyward said. “There’s so many people, like, you would assume everybody’s a jerk if you heard everything. But it comes from a loving place, and it comes from a caring place. We all want to be better, and we joke a lot. We poke and prod at each other, but it doesn’t always come off that way. And so, that’s the only thing I really worry about.”
Heyward, who has been with the Steelers since being drafted in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft, is entering the final year of his four-year contract with the team. The 35-year-old defensive lineman will be looking to lead the Steelers to success on the field while navigating the added scrutiny of being featured in the docuseries.
The Steelers will open their season on Sept. 8 against the Atlanta Falcons, and fans will be watching closely to see how Heyward and his teammates handle the added attention. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
