Celestia, a prominent blockchain platform, has recently announced its upcoming major upgrade, known as the ‘Lemongrass’ upgrade. This significant milestone for Celestia includes key consensus changes that aim to enhance the platform’s functionality and performance.

The Lemongrass upgrade introduces several critical features, such as Interchain Accounts, Packet Forward Middleware, and CIP-10, a mechanism designed to streamline future upgrades. The release of version 2.0.0 of the celestia-app will trigger the activation of Lemongrass on the Arabica Devnet in August 2024. Following successful testing, the Mocha Testnet is also expected to be upgraded later in August, with the Celestia Mainnet Beta set to receive the upgrade by early to mid-September.

In addition to these changes, the Data Availability (DA) layer will also undergo significant technical changes, including pruning blob data and the introduction of Shwap, a new messaging framework for DA and sampling.

The Lemongrass hardfork encompasses several Core Improvement Proposals (CIPs), including Price Enforcement, Packet Forward Middleware, Coordinated Upgrades, Interchain Accounts, and Disable Blobstream Module. These proposals aim to enforce a minimum gas price for transactions, facilitate data packet forwarding, streamline upgrade processes, enhance interoperability, and improve network performance.

Overall, the Lemongrass upgrade marks a pivotal moment for Celestia, paving the way for enhanced interoperability, efficiency, and future scalability of the network. For more detailed information on the upgrade, interested individuals can visit the Celestia Blog.
