Chinese car maker Zeekr is making waves in the electric vehicle (EV) industry with its latest announcement that its new batteries charge faster than any of its competitors, including industry giants Tesla and BYD.
The company claims that its upgraded batteries can be charged from 10% to 80% capacity in just 10 and a half minutes using its ultra-fast charging stations. In comparison, Tesla’s Model 3 takes 15 minutes to cover only half of its full range.
Zeekr’s 2025 007 sedan, set to be released next week, will be the first vehicle to feature the new battery technology. The company also boasts that the battery performs well even in cold weather, charging from 10% to 80% capacity in less than half an hour at temperatures as low as -10C.
Industry experts have weighed in on Zeekr’s bold claims, with Tu Le, founder and managing director of consultancy firm Sino Auto Insights, stating that Tesla’s charging technology is no longer industry-leading. Mark Rainford, a China-based car industry commentator, noted that Zeekr’s parent company, Geely, has the resources and focus to prioritize maximizing the charging experience.
Zeekr’s shares recently started trading on the New York Stock Exchange, marking a significant milestone for Chinese companies in the US market. However, the company’s shares are currently trading 27% below the price set in its initial public offering (IPO), possibly due to the Biden administration’s announcement of major tariff hikes on Chinese-made electric cars.
Despite the challenges in the global market, Zeekr’s innovative battery technology and focus on charging experience have positioned the company as a formidable competitor in the rapidly expanding Chinese EV industry.
