Chun Wang, the co-founder of Bitcoin mining pool f2pool, is gearing up for an out-of-this-world adventure as he prepares to command SpaceX’s first human spaceflight mission to explore Earth’s polar regions from orbit. Wang, who has been mining Bitcoin since 2011, has been diligently preparing for this mission for the past 2.5 years, playing a key role in every aspect of the mission, from planning to crew selection.
Named after the ship that first explored Earth’s Arctic and Antarctic regions, the mission, called Fram2, will be led by Wang, an entrepreneur and adventurer from Malta. SpaceX announced that Wang aims to showcase the crew’s spirit of exploration, ignite curiosity in the public, and demonstrate how technology can push the boundaries of Earth exploration and research.
“This mission represents a new chapter in space exploration,” said Wang. “I’ve always been fascinated by the idea of human missions to Mars, and now I believe that it may not be a government, but a person or a company that will get us there.”
Wang will be joined by a diverse team of adventurers, including Jannicke Mikkelsen from Norway, Eric Philips from Australia, and Rabea Rogge from Germany. The crew will spend 3 to 5 days observing the polar regions from Dragon’s cupola at an altitude of 425 to 450 km. They will study phenomena such as auroras and STEVE (Strong Thermal Emission Velocity Enhancement) and conduct various research to understand the effects of spaceflight on the human body and gain insights into space physics and atmospheric science.
The mission, set to become the first human spaceflight to explore Earth’s polar regions from orbit, is sure to captivate audiences worldwide and inspire a new wave of space exploration.
