The 2024 NFL regular season got off to a rocky start in Kansas City as the Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens faced a delay in kickoff due to thunderstorms in the area. Fans were instructed to seek shelter in the concourse as the rain poured down on GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.

The NBC broadcast captured the scene as fans huddled under awnings or braved the storm with towels in hand. Despite the weather delay, kickoff was estimated to take place at 8:40 p.m. ET.

As fans waited for the storm to pass, the Chiefs took to social media to poke fun at the situation, referencing a previous tweet that read “The calm before the storm.” The team replied, “We didn’t mean literally…” as the rain continued to fall.

Once the rain subsided, fans were able to return to their seats and witness a rematch of the AFC Championship Game between the Chiefs and Ravens. Last season, the Chiefs emerged victorious on the road against the Ravens, ultimately defending their Super Bowl title.

The Ravens come into the game with a revamped offense, featuring veteran running back Derrick Henry, receiver Zay Flowers, and tight end Mark Andrews. Their defense is also a formidable unit that can challenge any offense, including the high-powered Chiefs led by Patrick Mahomes.

Despite a disappointing season opener last year, where the Chiefs fell to the Detroit Lions at home, they are eager to start this season on a high note. Tight end Travis Kelce, who missed the previous opener due to injury, is set to take the field against the Ravens.

As fans, including Kelce’s girlfriend Taylor Swift, eagerly await the resumption of play, the stage is set for an exciting start to the 2024 NFL season in Kansas City. Stay tuned for more updates on this highly anticipated matchup.
