Retired Generals Defend Vice President Kamala Harris Amid Criticism Over Afghanistan Withdrawal

A group of retired generals and admirals have come forward to defend Vice President Kamala Harris from criticism surrounding the Biden-Harris administration’s handling of the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan. The group, which includes prominent figures such as Admiral Steve Abbot and Gen. Lloyd W. Newton, has endorsed Harris as the best candidate to serve as commander-in-chief.

In a letter obtained by Axios, the National Security Leaders for America group praised Harris for her ability to tackle challenging national security issues, citing her leadership in rallying allies against Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and standing up to China in the Indo-Pacific region. The group also criticized former President Trump for allegedly setting up the Biden-Harris administration for failure in Afghanistan.

The generals pointed out that the Trump administration negotiated a deal with the Taliban without involving the Afghan government, which led to the release of 5,000 Taliban fighters back onto the battlefield. Despite the challenges left by the previous administration, the group commended President Biden and Vice President Harris for overseeing the largest airlift in U.S. history and bringing American troops home.

Harris has faced heavy criticism for her involvement in the withdrawal, with some parents and relatives of U.S. soldiers killed during the operation endorsing former President Trump. Trump’s campaign has highlighted Harris’ role in the pullout, which resulted in the deaths of 13 U.S. soldiers.

The upcoming debate between Trump and Harris is expected to address the handling of the Afghanistan withdrawal, with Trump likely to raise the issue during the event. The endorsement from the group of retired generals and admirals adds a new perspective to the ongoing debate over the Biden-Harris administration’s foreign policy decisions.

As the controversy continues to unfold, the support for Harris from these military leaders could shape the narrative surrounding her role in the administration’s national security efforts. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
