Kathy Bates, the renowned actress known for her roles in “Misery” and “American Horror Story,” recently made headlines for her incredible weight loss journey. Bates revealed that she lost 100 pounds after her weight began to affect her stamina and mobility, especially during the demanding filming schedule of her latest project, the CBS reboot of “Matlock.”

In a candid interview with Variety, the 76-year-old actress shared how she reached her heaviest weight in 2011 while starring in “Harry’s Law,” where she struggled to walk and had to sit down frequently. Bates expressed her regret for letting herself get out of shape but emphasized the positive impact losing weight has had on her energy levels.

Bates also opened up about her family history of diabetes, which motivated her to shed the extra weight and improve her overall health. She shared valuable advice she received from her niece about controlling her appetite and listening to signals from her body to avoid overeating.

Additionally, Bates revealed that her weight loss helped ease the symptoms of lymphedema, a condition she developed after battling cancer. Despite facing health challenges, Bates remains grateful for her improved health and energy levels.

Reflecting on her six-decade career in Hollywood, Bates acknowledged the challenges she faced as an actress who didn’t fit the typical beauty standards of the industry. She credited her longevity in the business to her talent and dedication, rather than her appearance.

In a recent interview with The New York Times, Bates hinted at the possibility of retiring after starring in “Matlock,” but also expressed a deep love for acting and hinted that she may never fully step away from the profession.

Overall, Kathy Bates’ inspiring weight loss journey and dedication to her craft serve as a reminder of the importance of prioritizing health and pursuing one’s passions.
