Google Introduces Video Search Feature: A Game-Changer in Online Search

In a groundbreaking move, Google has unveiled a new feature that allows users to search the internet by taking a video. This innovative tool, known as Video Search, enables people to point their camera at an object, ask a question about it, and receive search results instantly.

Available to Android and iPhone users worldwide, the feature can be accessed by enabling “AI Overviews” in the Google app starting at 1700 GMT. However, it will initially only support English language queries.

This latest development is part of Google’s ongoing efforts to revolutionize online search using artificial intelligence (AI). Just three months ago, OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, introduced a similar feature that allows users to search by asking questions to its chatbot.

Despite facing some initial challenges with AI-generated results, Google has made significant improvements to enhance the accuracy and reliability of its search feature. The company has also expanded its AI capabilities to include the ability to ask questions about still images using Google Lens, which has proven to be popular among users.

Liz Reid, Google’s head of search, emphasized that the new video search feature will make it easier for people to inquire about the world around them. For example, a visitor at an aquarium can now simply record a video of fish swimming in unison and ask a question out loud to get relevant search results.

Industry analyst Paolo Pescatore hailed this development as a major milestone for Google, highlighting the increasing integration of AI in everyday tasks. He noted that AI-driven visual search has the potential to personalize and enhance user experiences based on individual usage patterns and habits.

In addition to the video search feature, Google has introduced several other updates, including improved shopping results with reviews and pricing information from various sellers. The company has also launched a music-identifying tool to rival Apple’s Shazam, allowing users to identify songs without leaving the app.

As Google faces growing competition in the search space, particularly from OpenAI and other emerging players, these new features are seen as strategic moves to maintain its dominance in the market. While challenges may arise, Google’s continuous innovation and adaptation to user needs position it as a frontrunner in the ever-evolving landscape of online search.
