US Teenager Makes History by Resetting Tetris to Level 0 After Beating It
In a historic moment for classic video game enthusiasts, 16-year-old Michael Artiaga achieved the seemingly impossible feat of resetting Tetris to level 0 after beating it. The teenager, known as “dogplayingtetris” on Twitch, accomplished this remarkable milestone while livestreaming his gameplay on Sunday.
It took Artiaga a total of 82 minutes to successfully clear level 255 on Tetris, the game’s highest level. As he celebrated his victory, he was left in shock as the game unexpectedly reset to the beginning. “Am I dreaming, bro?” he asked his viewers, expressing his disbelief at the unprecedented occurrence.
Despite the unexpected turn of events, Artiaga continued playing and eventually finished with an impressive 29.4 million points. “I’m so glad that game is over,” he remarked as he wrapped up his stream, declaring that he never wanted to play Tetris again.
Artiaga was reportedly playing a version of Tetris designed for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) console, which prevents crashes after level 155. The game’s crashes and kill screens have posed challenges for other young streamers attempting to set new records.
Tetris, created in 1984 by Soviet engineer Alexey Pajitnov, has remained a popular game for its simplicity and challenging gameplay. Players must strategically arrange falling shapes to create complete lines and prevent the blocks from reaching the top of the screen.
Artiaga is among several teenage gamers who have livestreamed their attempts to break records for the number of levels reached or lines cleared in Tetris. In 2020, he became the world’s youngest Tetris world champion at the age of 13 by defeating his older brother in the Classic Tetris World Championship final.
