Uber CEO Urges Customers to Wait Longer for Electric Cars

In a recent interview with the BBC, Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi emphasized the importance of choosing electric rides over traditional petrol or diesel vehicles. He encouraged customers to be patient and wait a few extra minutes for an electric car, stating that “a couple of minutes isn’t going to kill anyone.”

Uber is rolling out new options to promote the use of electric vehicles (EVs) and reduce emissions. Khosrowshahi believes that cheaper, Chinese-made electric vehicles are not only good for the environment but also essential in addressing the climate crisis.

However, some countries are hesitant to embrace Chinese EVs due to concerns about unfair competition for domestic carmakers. Despite this, Khosrowshahi remains optimistic about the potential of high-quality Chinese-made EVs in combating climate change.

Uber’s sustainability goals include transitioning all car journeys and deliveries to “zero emissions vehicles” by 2040. While the company is expanding its services beyond cab rides and food delivery, the shift to electric vehicles may result in slightly longer wait times for customers.

Khosrowshahi acknowledged that Uber currently has a smaller profit margin on electric car rides but believes that the transition to electric will benefit both the planet and the company in the long run.

In addition to promoting electric rides, Uber is introducing more delivery services to compete with rivals like Amazon. Khosrowshahi envisions a future where customers can order a wide range of products for quick delivery through Uber’s platform.

Despite challenges such as tariffs on Chinese-made vehicles and concerns about charging infrastructure, Khosrowshahi remains committed to electrifying Uber’s fleet and making electric vehicles more accessible and affordable for drivers.

As the world shifts towards a more sustainable future, Uber’s push for electric rides and delivery services reflects a growing trend towards environmentally friendly transportation options.
