The star of a controversial new film about Donald Trump, Sebastian Stan, has made a bold statement about the former president’s reaction to the movie. In “The Apprentice,” Stan portrays Trump in his younger years as a real estate tycoon in New York. Despite Trump’s threats of legal action and criticism of the film as “fake and classless,” Stan believes Trump “should be grateful” for the complex and three-dimensional portrayal presented in the movie.

The film, which struggled to find a distributor in the US, has faced challenges in its release. Director Ali Abbasi described the process as the most challenging thing he’s ever done. However, the movie finally made its way to the US last week and received its British premiere at the London Film Festival.

“The Apprentice” delves into Trump’s relationship with lawyer and mentor Roy Cohn, played by Jeremy Strong. The film explores how Cohn instilled certain values in Trump, such as never admitting defeat. Strong emphasized that the movie is not about vilifying or demonizing its subjects but rather providing a deeper understanding of how Trump became who he is today.

The portrayal of Trump in the film is not sympathetic, with controversial scenes depicting his treatment of people and a particularly contentious moment involving his ex-wife Ivana. The movie has sparked debate about its potential impact on viewers and its chances in the Oscars race.

Despite the controversy surrounding the film, Stan and the cast and crew of “The Apprentice” stand by their work, believing it offers a unique and insightful perspective on Trump’s life and character. As the movie continues to make waves in the entertainment industry, it remains to be seen how audiences will react to this bold and unapologetic portrayal of one of the most polarizing figures in recent history.
