Title: Parental Rights Advocate Amy Bohn Challenges California’s School Gender Identity Law

Amy Bohn, the president and co-founder of PERK (Protection of the Educational Rights of Kids), is taking a stand against California’s recently passed legislation, AB 1955. The bill prohibits educators from informing parents when their children change their pronouns, name, or gender identity at school.

In an interview with Fox News Digital, Bohn criticized the legislation, calling it a violation of parental rights. She expressed concern that the bill promotes secrecy and removes important information from parents, creating a “secret file” at the school level.

Supporters of the legislation argue that students are entitled to privacy, with Assemblyman Chris Ward, the bill’s sponsor, stating that it allows students to decide when they are ready to share private information about themselves.

Bohn countered this argument by highlighting that minors do not have the legal capacity to consent to such decisions, emphasizing the role of parents in guiding and protecting their children.

Bohn also raised concerns about the political motivations behind the bill, suggesting that Governor Gavin Newsom supports it for political expediency rather than genuine concern for children’s well-being.

In addition to her work on AB 1955, Bohn and PERK have been actively involved in other public policy battles, including challenging vaccine mandates in school districts and advocating against COVID lockdowns.

Despite facing pushback, Bohn and PERK have been credited with driving local protests and activism to reopen schools and represent the interests of families and children affected by the closures.

Newsom’s office did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the matter.

As Amy Bohn continues to advocate for parental rights and transparency in education, her efforts shed light on the ongoing debate surrounding children’s privacy and the role of parents in decision-making.
