The small town of Mocejón in central Spain is reeling from a tragic incident that has left the community in shock. An 11-year-old boy named Mateo was brutally attacked and killed while playing on a football pitch on Sunday morning.
The suspect, a 20-year-old man from the area, has been arrested following an extensive two-day search operation conducted by the Spanish Civil Guard. Reports indicate that the suspect fled the scene in a grey Ford Mondeo after the attack, which took place at the Ángel Tardío sports centre in Mocejón.
Mateo’s family and friends are devastated by the senseless act of violence, with his cousin Asell Sánchez describing him as a “super good boy” who was loved by all. The community of Mocejón, with a population of about 5,000, has declared three days of official mourning in honor of Mateo.
Authorities, including the president of the Castilla-La Mancha region, Emiliano Garcia-Page, have expressed their support for the law enforcement agencies involved in the search for justice. The mayor of Mocejón, Concepción Cedillo, described the incident as a “sad day” for the town, emphasizing the pain of losing an innocent child in such a tragic manner.
As the investigation continues, the community is coming together to mourn the loss of Mateo and seek justice for the heinous crime that has shaken them to the core.
