Milan’s Food Scene Flourishes with New Arrivals

Late last December, Milan bid farewell to the iconic Brera-neighborhood restaurant La Latteria, marking the end of an era after 58 years of service. The closure left many in a state of mourning, but the city’s food scene has rebounded with a wave of new bars, restaurants, and cafes opening in the last six months.

Among the new arrivals is Bar Nico, located in the quiet Acquabella district. Former model Chiara Pino and fashion brand Sunnei alum Riccardo Ganelli have transformed the space into a modern bar, offering a curated selection of natural wines and small plates like radicchio and balsamic salad and raw sausage from Bra.

Yoji Tokuyoshi, former sous chef at Osteria Francescana, opened Pan with restaurateur Alice Yamada, serving pastries and desserts with European and Japanese influences. The menu includes items like flaky miso cinnamon rolls and Basque-style matcha cheesecake.

In the Navigli district, Gloria was opened by Rocco Galasso, Luca Gennati, and Tommaso Melilli, offering modernized Italian dishes in a traditional trattoria setting. Meanwhile, a new bistro on Via Fiori Chiari serves up classic Milanese favorites in retro-futuristic interiors designed by Dimorestudio.

Sisters Yasmine and Julie Audi brought a taste of Beirut to Milan with their dessert and ice cream shop, offering treats like angel food cake with rose-flavored icing and handmade Loukoum candies. Bicchierino, located in Giambellino, provides a relaxed atmosphere for guests to enjoy natural wines and unfussy dishes.

Finally, winemaker Marco Guzzetti opened Via Stampa, a Parisian-inspired bistro in Milan’s historic center, serving small, seasonal plates like fried artichokes with Parmesan fondue and borage-stuffed ravioli.

With these new additions, Milan’s food scene has never been more vibrant, showcasing a mix of traditional flavors and modern influences from young entrepreneurs in the fashion and design worlds. The city’s culinary landscape continues to evolve, offering residents and visitors alike a diverse and exciting array of dining options.
