Ring, the home security camera company owned by Amazon, has agreed to pay over $5.6 million in refunds to customers as part of a settlement with the Federal Trade Commission (F.T.C.). The F.T.C. filed a lawsuit against Ring last May, alleging that the company failed to protect customer accounts and allowed employees and contractors to access private video footage without consent.
As part of the settlement, Ring has deleted unauthorized videos, established a privacy and security program, and paid a settlement that will be used for customer refunds. Over 117,000 affected customers will receive PayPal payments from the F.T.C. as a result of this settlement.
Customers who had certain Ring devices, such as the Stick Up Cam and Indoor Cam, before February 1, 2018, are eligible for a refund. The F.T.C. will use information provided by Ring to send payments to eligible customers. If you believe you are eligible for a refund but have not received an email from the F.T.C., you can contact the refund administrator, Rust Consulting, for assistance.
If you have received a PayPal payment from the F.T.C., make sure to redeem it by May 22 to avoid it being returned. If you have any questions about the payment or would prefer to receive a check instead, you can contact Rust Consulting at 1-833-637-4884 or email info@ring.com. Stay informed and make sure to take advantage of this opportunity for a refund if you are eligible.
