Ed Sheeran Surprises Fans by Signing Autographs in Hot Sauce at Supermarket
Fans of Ed Sheeran were left in shock after the Grammy award-winning star made a surprise appearance at a Sainsbury’s supermarket in Hertfordshire. But what really caught everyone off guard was how he signed autographs – in hot sauce.
Sheeran was promoting his hot sauce brand, Tingly Ted’s, which is sold at the supermarket chain. Fans were given just an hour’s notice to make their way to the store after Sheeran announced the pop-up event via social media and his fan email newsletter.
One fan, Harry Barnes, who happened to be in the area, decided to check out the event after spotting the email. He told BBC Three Counties Radio that only a few fans were initially waiting, but once word spread that Sheeran was signing autographs in hot sauce, hundreds flocked to the car park.
“I’m a massive Ed Sheeran fan,” Barnes said. “The only problem was – I was in a Justin Timberlake t-shirt.”
Despite not having the ideal item for Sheeran to sign, Barnes ended up with a block of cheese signed with the hot sauce. He even had to eat the cheese with Sheeran’s signature on it.
But Barnes wasn’t the only one to leave with an unusual signed item. Other fans walked away with lettuce, broccoli, bread loaves, and even a vinyl record, all signed with Sheeran’s special pen.
One particularly unique item, a roll of paper towels supposedly signed by Sheeran, has already made its way onto an online selling platform for £1,000.
Fans were also treated to free slices of pizza to try out the hot sauce, adding to the excitement of the unexpected event.
Sheeran expressed his own excitement about surprising shoppers at the supermarket, while the store manager, Satwinder Hayre, was thrilled by the singer’s visit, saying it “certainly gave our customers shivers!”
While Sheeran’s hot sauce may have stolen the show, it’s worth noting that other hot sauces are available for purchase, as are other supermarkets for cheese or flowers, of course.
