Street artist Banksy continues to captivate London with his latest mural, the eighth in just eight days. This time, the elusive artist has depicted a rhino mounting a Nissan Micra with a traffic cone on its bonnet in Charlton, south-east London.
The artwork was confirmed on Banksy’s Instagram account, following the unveiling of swimming piranhas on a City of London Police sentry box the day before. This rhino piece is part of an animal-themed series that has been popping up across the capital.
The mural frenzy began last week with a goat near Kew Bridge, followed by two elephants in Chelsea, three monkeys in Brick Lane, and a howling wolf in Peckham. However, the wolf piece was swiftly removed by unknown individuals, much to the disappointment of onlookers.
Locals in Walthamstow woke up to find two pelicans above a fish shop, and a stencil of a cat appeared in Cricklewood on Saturday. Unfortunately, the cat mural was dismantled by men claiming to be hired by a contracting company for safety reasons, sparking outrage among spectators.
As Banksy’s art continues to spark intrigue and controversy, Londoners and visitors alike are drawn to the city’s streets to catch a glimpse of these fleeting masterpieces. The artist’s impact is so significant that even a judge at the Old Bailey courts suggested a visit to a nearby Banksy mural as a way for a discharged jury to enjoy the weather.
