The rise of Gen Z investors in India is a trend that is catching the eye of many. With the advent of user-friendly investment apps and a shift towards a mobile-first approach, young Indians are diving headfirst into the world of investing.

Madhur Katta, a 22-year-old investor from Jaipur, is one such example. He was initially drawn to the stock market due to the buzz surrounding it post-pandemic. Apps like Zerodha made it easy for him to navigate the market and place buy and sell orders with ease.

The accessibility provided by digital fintech platforms has been a game-changer for many tech-savvy youngsters. They no longer have to rely on brokers or banks to make their transactions, making investing more convenient than ever.

Young Indians like Jillian Tauro, 19, are starting to invest early to take advantage of the power of compounding. The idea of generating profits and taking control of their finances gives them a sense of financial responsibility.

However, the volatility of the market has made Gen Z investors cautious. Many are realizing that making money in the market is not as easy as it seems. Some are opting for safer alternatives like Systematic Investment Plans (SIPs) to mitigate risks.

‘Finfluencers’ and social media platforms play a significant role in shaping the investment choices of Gen Z. While they provide valuable information and insights, investors need to be cautious of unrealistic expectations that may not align with the performance of their portfolios.

To protect investors, the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) has cracked down on finfluencers who provide investment advice through social media. They have also placed restrictions on regulated intermediaries’ interactions with finfluencers to prevent the promotion of products through misleading information.

As young Indians continue to focus on saving and gaining financial independence, the world of investing is becoming more accessible and appealing to Gen Z. With the right tools and knowledge, they are poised to make a significant impact on the Indian investment landscape.
