Dr. Olivia Arden Sacks, a dedicated surgical resident, found herself consumed by long hours, academic papers, and thoughts about her rotation in October 2022. However, amidst the chaos of her professional life, she had a moment of clarity – she wanted to marry Anika Lynn Bieg.

Their love story began when Dr. Sacks matched with Ms. Bieg on Bumble in August 2021. Initially, Dr. Sacks saw it as practice after the end of a four-year relationship, while Ms. Bieg was feeling drained by dating apps and was looking for someone who put in effort into the conversation.

After chatting for two weeks, they met for drinks and snacks at Toro restaurant in Boston’s South End neighborhood. Despite Dr. Sacks’s initial lack of excitement, everything changed when she saw Ms. Bieg walk into the restaurant. They talked for three hours, with Ms. Bieg making a bold move by kissing Dr. Sacks just 10 minutes into their conversation.

Their relationship blossomed, and four months in, Ms. Bieg knew she was in love when Dr. Sacks hosted a Christmas party for her and her friends, a gesture that touched her deeply.

The couple’s journey led to a surprise proposal at Twin Farms Resort in Barnard, Vt., followed by a reciprocal proposal during an engagement photo shoot. They both come from diverse backgrounds, with Dr. Sacks being a surgical resident and Ms. Bieg working at an environmental nonprofit organization.

When it came time to plan their wedding, Dr. Sacks wanted a joyful celebration in a nontraditional way, while Ms. Bieg was fine with eloping. They settled on a legal ceremony in Boston followed by a wedding celebration at the Boston Public Library, filled with surprise elements and unique touches that reflected their personalities.

Their wedding day was a reflection of their love and commitment to each other, with a focus on sustainability and personal touches. The couple exchanged vows under a huppah carried by family members, followed by a cocktail hour and dinner in the main reading room.

Their relationship, as Ms. Bieg puts it, works because they were both formed individuals who found themselves before meeting each other, allowing them to grow together.

As they continue their journey together, Dr. Sacks and Ms. Bieg are a testament to love, commitment, and the beauty of finding a partner who complements and supports you in every way.
