The Metropolitan Police has issued a warning to the BBC regarding a report on Tim Westwood’s alleged misconduct, stating that it could potentially “interfere with justice” if published. The report is set to examine the BBC’s handling of complaints and allegations against the former Radio 1 and 1Xtra DJ.

Several women have come forward with accusations of predatory and unwanted sexual behavior against Westwood, dating back to incidents between 1992 and 2017. A joint investigation by the BBC and the Guardian prompted a review led by Gemma White KC, which was commissioned by the BBC to look into Westwood’s nearly 20-year tenure with the broadcaster.

Despite denying the claims of misconduct, Westwood has faced scrutiny and stepped down from his Capital Xtra show in April 2022. The 66-year-old DJ has continued to perform at gigs around the country, even as some campaigners have called for nightclubs to boycott him.

The report, which was initially expected to take six months, is now set to be published within the next month. The BBC has spent over £3 million on the review so far, and it is believed that Westwood has been interviewed by the Metropolitan Police multiple times in connection with the allegations.

In a statement to BBC News, a Met Police officer highlighted specific sections of the report that could potentially impact ongoing investigations if made public. The BBC has emphasized the importance of understanding the concerns raised about Westwood’s conduct during his time with the broadcaster, with the priority being to ensure a fair and thorough review process.
