In a groundbreaking move, over 25 leading Bitcoin organizations have united to launch the ‘Bitcoin Deserves an Emoji’ movement, aiming to secure an official Bitcoin emoji for digital keyboards worldwide. Spearheaded by Nexo, this global initiative seeks to highlight Bitcoin’s significance as a revolutionary technology, a form of money, and a cultural phenomenon.

Kosta Kantchev, Co-founder & Executive Chairman of Nexo, emphasized the importance of recognizing Bitcoin’s journey and impact, stating, “It’s time its significance is recognized universally, starting with a symbol we all understand – an emoji. Join us in making history.”

The coalition includes prominent entities like BTC Inc, Bitget, Brink, Chainalysis, Hacken, Nansen, and Unstoppable Domains, all coming together to advocate for Bitcoin’s integration into the digital lexicon through emojis.

BTC Inc CEO David Bailey expressed the need for a universal Bitcoin emoji, stating, “Bitcoin is universal money for the world, it needs a universal emoji for every person, young and old to use.”

The campaign kicks off with a 50-day petition on Change.org, leading to an official submission to the Unicode Consortium in 2024. This effort aims to solidify Bitcoin’s place in digital communication and financial ecosystems worldwide.

Emojis have become a crucial part of digital communication, with 92% of internet users using them globally. The push for a Bitcoin emoji symbolizes more than just a symbol—it represents Bitcoin’s impact on modern technology and finance.

Mike Schmidt, Executive Director of Brink, highlighted the importance of an official Bitcoin emoji in recognizing Bitcoin’s technological influence on the world.

The initiative invites individuals to join the movement and support the campaign for a Bitcoin emoji. To learn more and get involved, visit the initiative’s website.
