A recent poll conducted by Quinnipiac University revealed that a slim majority of Americans are in favor of a House bill that would ban TikTok if the platform is not sold to a company without ties to the Chinese Communist Party. The poll, conducted from March 21-25, found that 51% of Americans support the legislation, compared to 41% who support an outright national ban.

The bill, led by House China Select Committee Chair Rep. Mike Gallagher and ranking member Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi, would require TikTok to divest itself of CCP control or face a ban in the U.S. within 165 days of passage. This move has sparked a heated debate, especially among younger Americans who are more likely to defend access to TikTok.

Critics of TikTok have long raised concerns about the app being a national security threat due to the Chinese government’s potential access to sensitive user data. On the other hand, supporters argue that the app’s popularity among young Americans should not be restricted.

The bill passed through the House with a bipartisan 352-65 vote, showcasing the divided opinions on the matter. The issue has sparked intense reactions, with opponents flooding Congress with calls and messages urging them not to restrict TikTok. Rep. Chip Roy even mentioned receiving calls from individuals threatening suicide over the potential ban.

The debate surrounding TikTok’s future in the U.S. continues to evolve, with both sides passionately advocating for their stance. Stay tuned for further developments on this controversial issue.
