Zack Snyder’s latest film, “Rebel Moon — Part Two: The Scargiver,” is a wild ride through a galaxy of influences. Drawing from sources as diverse as “Star Wars,” “Mad Max,” and European art-house cinema, Snyder creates a delirious mishmash of a movie that is sure to leave audiences buzzing.
The film follows a bucolic village on the fringes of the universe as they fight off their imperial overlords. With a cast of characters that includes haunted child choirs, Gregorian choirs, and a robot dressed like the Green Knight voiced by Anthony Hopkins, “The Scargiver” is a visual feast.
While the film may not be a critical darling, it certainly delivers on the action front. With rousing warfare scenes and plenty of death, Snyder’s signature style is on full display. The script may stumble over its lofty aspirations, but when it comes to primal, pitiless carnage, Snyder excels.
Lead actress Sofia Boutella shines in the action scenes, but the film struggles to find life outside of the battle sequences. Despite its flaws, Snyder’s commitment to his vision is admirable, even if it borders on excessive.
“Rebel Moon — Part Two: The Scargiver” is a spectacle to behold, with stunning visuals and intense action sequences. While it may not be for everyone, fans of Snyder’s work are sure to find something to love in this epic space opera.
