Comedian Mark Simmons has sailed his way to the top of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe with his hilarious joke about a tiny ship. The joke, “I was going to sail around the globe in the world’s smallest ship but I bottled it,” was voted the funniest joke of the festival by members of the public.

Simmons, a Fringe veteran, has been making audiences laugh since his first solo show in 2014. Despite being fired from his job marking exam papers, Simmons is thrilled to win the U&Dave’s Funniest Joke of the Fringe award.

But Simmons isn’t the only comedian bringing the laughs at the festival. The top 15 jokes of the 2024 Fringe include puns about salsa dancing, horse meat, and even the moon being made of cheese. With a panel of comedy critics selecting the best jokes and the public voting on their favorites, the Edinburgh Fringe continues to showcase the best in comedy.

As Simmons continues to perform his More Jokes show at the festival before embarking on his UK tour, audiences can expect more witty one-liners and clever puns to keep them laughing. The Edinburgh Fringe may be the world’s biggest performance art festival, but with comedians like Simmons on stage, it’s also the funniest.
