Sky Glass and Sky streaming service customers are facing technical glitches with their devices, leaving many unable to use their TVs and streaming services. Reports of issues first surfaced on Thursday evening, with hundreds of users experiencing problems with their devices.
According to Downdetector, reports of the platform outage were in the hundreds shortly before 21:00 BST on Thursday, and customers were still reporting issues on Friday morning. A Sky spokesperson acknowledged the problem, stating, “We are sorry that some Sky Glass and Stream customers are currently experiencing issues when trying to switch on their devices.”
Customers have been advised to manually restart their TVs and devices by following a guide on Sky’s website. However, some users have expressed frustration with the prolonged downtime, with one social media user complaining that their Sky Glass TV had been non-functional for nearly 11 hours.
Sky Glass is a smart TV that operates over broadband, allowing users to stream content without the need for an aerial or satellite dish. Some users suspect that a faulty update from Sky may have caused their devices to become “bricked.”
Videos and posts on social media show customers struggling to turn on their TVs, with some missing out on important TV events like the first half of a Champion’s League football match. The issues have also impacted the Sky Stream “puck,” which provides access to popular streaming apps like Netflix and Disney+.
Despite the widespread reports of issues, Sky has not provided any information on the cause of the problem or when it expects to resolve the issues. Customers continue to seek solutions and workarounds on Sky’s community forum as they wait for their devices to be fully functional again.
