A Texas man, Jared James Dicus, has been sentenced to 40 years in prison after pleading guilty to the gruesome murder of his newlywed wife, Anggy Diaz. The shocking crime took place in 2023 when Dicus, now 23, decapitated Diaz and left her head in the shower.

The sentencing was handed down by Judge Gary Chaney after Dicus pleaded guilty to murder. His earliest parole date will not be until 2043. The plea deal and sentencing were finalized after consultation with Diaz’s family by the Waller County District Attorney’s Office.

During the pre-trial phase, concerns were raised about Dicus’s mental health, but he was deemed competent to stand trial after a court-ordered examination. As part of the plea deal, Dicus waived his right to appeal the verdict, sentence, and any potential defense, including an insanity defense.

Waller County District Attorney Sean Whittmore stated, “Waller County does not tolerate domestic violence. Heinous crimes like this one will not go unanswered. We will seek justice for the victims of domestic violence and send a message to the perpetrators that here, we fight for our victims.”

Diaz, originally from Nicaragua, was found by Waller County Sheriff’s Office deputies with multiple stab wounds in her back and her head in the shower. Dicus confessed to investigators that he murdered his wife after marrying her just three months earlier.

This tragic case serves as a reminder of the devastating impact of domestic violence and the importance of seeking justice for victims.
