The city of Kharkiv in northeastern Ukraine was rocked by a devastating airstrike from Russia, resulting in the deaths of at least three people and injuring 31 others, according to local officials. The attack, which targeted residential areas, a bakery, and a stadium, was carried out using guided glide bombs on Tuesday.

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the strikes, stating that the Russian bombs were targeting the everyday lives of ordinary people. The attack in Kharkiv comes as fighting escalates in eastern Ukraine, with Russian troops closing in on the town of Vuhledar, which has already been largely destroyed.

Following the blitz in Kharkiv, Zelensky shared images of the destroyed residential tower, calling on allies to “stop the terror.” He is currently in New York to address the UN General Assembly, emphasizing Ukraine’s urgent need for military assistance from the US.

Meanwhile, officials in Kharkiv revealed that the apartment block that was hit had previously been targeted at the start of the war and had been undergoing repairs. The use of glide bombs by Russia has become increasingly common in recent months, with devastating consequences for civilians.

In addition to the attack in Kharkiv, Russian forces have made significant advances in eastern Ukraine, with reports of troops nearing Vuhledar and other strategic locations. Ukrainian forces have also made gains in certain regions, according to the Institute for the Study of War.

The situation in Ukraine remains dire as the conflict continues to escalate, with innocent civilians bearing the brunt of the violence. The international community is closely monitoring the situation, with calls for an end to the bloodshed and a peaceful resolution to the crisis.
