Lights, Camera, Action! Birmingham Takes Center Stage for Peaky Blinders Movie

Birmingham, UK – Fans of the hit TV series Peaky Blinders have something to look forward to as filming for the upcoming movie is well underway, with Birmingham playing a pivotal role in the production.

The popular show, which aired from 2013 to 2022, followed the story of a Birmingham crime gang in the aftermath of World War One, starring Oscar winner Cillian Murphy as the iconic Tommy Shelby. Now, Murphy is set to reprise his role for the silver screen adaptation, much to the delight of fans.

Parts of Birmingham city center were transformed into film sets on Monday, with scenes being shot in the Gas Street Basin area. The canal paths in the area were closed off for filming, creating an exciting buzz among locals and fans of the show.

Steven Knight, the creator of Peaky Blinders and a Birmingham native, is leading the charge for the film, ensuring that the city’s rich history and unique architecture are showcased on screen. The film is set to bring the gritty and atmospheric world of Peaky Blinders to life in a whole new way.

In addition to the filming in Birmingham, artist Daniel Russell-Ahern, also known as Mr. Murals, has been commissioned to create a stunning Peaky Blinders mural in Digbeth. The mural has already garnered significant attention on social media, further adding to the excitement surrounding the movie.

Peaky Blinders has become a cultural phenomenon, with its impact extending beyond the screen. The show has become a defining part of Birmingham’s identity, with themed tours and references to the series in various events, including the closing ceremony of the Commonwealth Games held in the city.
