The annual Salone del Mobile furniture fair in Milan is always a big event in the design world, but this year’s edition seemed to buzz with a new level of excitement. The fair drew in more people from outside the design industry, with hourlong lines forming outside events like the launch of Hermès’s interiors collection and the annual installation by Dimorestudio.
One of the standout presentations was Formafantasma’s solo show at the Fondazione ICA Milano, where the design duo showcased surprising hybrid chairs and lamps that combined steel armatures with colorful wood and hand-painted floral motifs. Another highlight was the new furniture line from Dimorestudio, which paired bold minimalist forms with luxe materials in a photogenic local plaster workshop.
Gucci also made waves with their blood-red design icons, partnering with Italian design companies to reimagine classic pieces in the brand’s new signature color. The exhibition featured limited edition items produced in collaboration with renowned designers.
The Alcova satellite fair, held in historic mansions outside the city, showcased new talent in the design world. Pieces like a two-tone wood room divider and a suite of galvanized-steel office furniture were exhibited in the former residence of architect Osvaldo Borsani.
Other notable presentations included Loewe’s commissioned lamps from artists around the world, interesting beds from a Georgian design duo, and Dolce & Gabbana’s support for young talent in the design industry.
Overall, this year’s Salone del Mobile was a showcase of creativity and innovation in the design world, with a diverse range of presentations that captivated attendees and inspired new trends in the industry.
