Former President Trump has raised concerns about the adequacy of his security detail following two recent assassination attempts on his life. In an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity, Trump revealed that his security team had long requested additional manpower, particularly due to the large crowds at his rallies.
The first attempt on Trump’s life occurred in Butler, Pa., in July, while the second incident took place while he was playing golf in West Palm Beach. The suspected would-be assassin, Ryan Wesley Routh, was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and having a firearm with an obliterated serial number.
Despite the close calls, Trump commended the quick actions of the Secret Service agents who swiftly removed him from the danger. The acting director of the U.S. Secret Service, Ronald Rowe, Jr., assured reporters that the agency has bolstered its security measures for the 2024 GOP nominee.
In response to the incidents, bipartisan legislation has been introduced to grant Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris the same level of USSS resources as President Biden. Rep. Mike Lawler emphasized the urgency of passing this legislation in light of the recent attempts on Trump’s life.
As the investigations into the assassination attempts continue, Trump remains focused on his goal of “running the country” and getting back to the business of governance. The incidents have underscored the importance of ensuring the safety and security of political figures, especially in the current charged political climate.
