Fellow Labour MP Chi Onwurah echoed similar concerns, highlighting the role of algorithms in promoting misinformation and racial hatred, as well as the reliance of platforms’ business models on such practices.
The scrutiny on Musk’s platform intensified after it was accused of spreading false information that incited anti-immigration riots in the UK. Following a tragic knife attack in Southport, inaccurate reports on X falsely claimed that the suspect was an asylum seeker, leading to widespread unrest.
Musk’s challenges extend beyond the UK, as the Brazilian Supreme Court recently suspended X due to Musk’s refusal to appoint a legal representative in the country. The issues in Brazil revolved around the platform’s dissemination of misinformation linked to former President Jair Bolsonaro.
