Valentino’s Creative Director Pierpaolo Piccioli Steps Down After Two Decades

In a surprising turn of events, Pierpaolo Piccioli, the creative director of the renowned fashion house Valentino, announced his departure after more than 20 years with the brand. This news comes just weeks after he unveiled a highly praised women’s wear collection during Paris Fashion Week.

Piccioli played a pivotal role in reshaping Valentino after the retirement of the brand’s founder, Valentino Garavani. His designs, worn by celebrities like Frances McDormand and Florence Pugh, seamlessly blended ease and elegance in a modern and captivating way.

“I’ve been in this company for 25 years, and for 25 years I’ve existed and I’ve lived with the people who have woven the weaves of this beautiful story that is mine and ours,” said Piccioli in a statement.

The fashion industry was rocked by the news of his departure, with Linda Fargo, the fashion director of Bergdorf Goodman, expressing her shock and disbelief.

Piccioli had been the sole creative director of Valentino since 2016, following the departure of Maria Grazia Chiuri. Together, they had led the design side of the house since 2008, showcasing a unique blend of romance and edge in their creations.

Known for his dreamy and immersive shows, Piccioli’s departure raises questions about the future direction of Valentino. His recent focus on pushing back against the fashion system and prioritizing humanity over merchandising has left a lasting impact on the industry.

As speculation swirls about potential shake-ups within Valentino’s parent group, the fashion world eagerly awaits news of the brand’s new creative direction. Despite the uncertainty, Piccioli’s legacy at Valentino is sure to endure, with many expressing gratitude for his contributions to the Maison.

With Piccioli’s next steps unknown, industry experts believe his unique aesthetic will continue to resonate with fashion enthusiasts. As one chapter closes, the fashion world eagerly anticipates what the future holds for both Piccioli and Valentino.
