Aragon Introduces Gasless Onchain Voting for Mainnet DAOs

In a groundbreaking announcement, Aragon has unveiled a game-changing update for Mainnet DAOs – the introduction of gasless onchain voting. This development represents a significant advancement in onchain governance, allowing DAOs to offer a secure, crosschain, and free voting experience for their members.

With the latest update to the Multichain Governance plugin, Mainnet DAO participants can now cast their votes for free. This update integrates LayerZero V2 to aggregate votes on the voting chain, which are then relayed and compiled on the home chain. Additionally, the implementation leverages ZKsync’s native account abstraction and txSync’s Tsuko paymaster functionality to subsidize voting gas costs for DAO members. The plugin is designed to be bridge, chain, and paymaster agnostic, allowing DAOs to integrate the solutions of their choice.

The importance of participation in DAO governance cannot be understated, as it serves as the foundation of security and legitimacy. However, high gas fees have often hindered voter engagement, leading many DAOs to resort to offchain solutions that compromise the security and trust-minimization of onchain execution.

Aragon’s solution aims to bring accessible voting back onchain, empowering DAOs to maintain the security of onchain governance while enabling members to cast votes for free. This not only enhances the DAO member experience but also encourages more active participation to ensure that all stakeholders have a voice in the decision-making process.

Since the initial launch of the Multichain Governance plugin in November 2023, Aragon has been dedicated to addressing critical onchain governance challenges. The new iteration of the plugin offers several key features, including the ability to vote from any EVM chain, gasless voting via paymaster integration, a seamless user experience, unified crosschain execution, and a modular and composable design.

To pass a proposal using the Multichain Governance v2 Plugin (Toucan Voting), members can follow a series of key steps, including bridging tokens, creating proposals, voting, dispatching votes, receiving votes, and executing proposals across all chains included in the proposal.

Aragon is committed to advancing onchain governance and is exploring the use of storage proofs with RISC Zero to further streamline the voting process. Their governance solutions are designed to scale with DAOs and provide flexibility to adapt to the evolving decentralized landscape.

For DAOs interested in deploying custom governance solutions, Aragon offers end-to-end custom DAO deployment services. Their solutions are designed for rapid deployment with extensive customization options to meet specific needs.

Overall, Aragon’s introduction of gasless onchain voting represents a significant milestone in the evolution of onchain governance, providing Mainnet DAOs with a secure, crosschain, and free voting experience for their members.
