Headline: Terrifying Moment Caught on Video as Zookeepers Encounter Silverback Gorilla at Fort Worth Zoo
Two zookeepers at the Fort Worth Zoo in Texas found themselves in a heart-stopping situation when they came face-to-face with a silverback gorilla named Elmo in the World of Primates exhibit.
In a now-viral video that has garnered 14 million views, the gorilla can be seen aggressively charging towards one of the zookeepers. The zookeeper is seen running for safety, reaching for a door and using a two-way radio to call for help.
The tense moment was captured by a man named Ben, who shared the video on TikTok under the handle @ben306069. The video also shows a second zookeeper who was unable to escape until Elmo moved away from the enclosure’s exit.
As Elmo fled into a corner of the enclosure, the second zookeeper managed to escape. Bystanders in the video can be heard praying for the safety of the zookeepers, with one person saying, “God help her.”
Despite the frightening encounter, it appears that both zookeepers were able to escape the situation unharmed. Elmo, the silverback gorilla, celebrated his 34th birthday on March 5, according to a Facebook post from the Gorilla Species Survival Plan.
The Fort Worth Zoo has not yet released a statement about the incident. Fox News Digital reached out to the zoo for comment.
