Love in the Time of FaceTime: A Washington D.C. Love Story

In a modern twist on a classic love story, Joelle Gamble and her now-husband, Mr. Copeland, found love in the midst of a pandemic and a forgotten first date. Both busy professionals in Washington D.C., they initially connected on a dating app in 2019, but their first date was scotched due to a missed text message.

Fast forward to 2021, when they reconnected on Bumble and decided to give it another shot. Little did they know, they had already crossed paths before. Despite recognizing each other’s names in their phones, they both played it cool and decided to start fresh with a FaceTime date.

As their relationship blossomed, Mr. Copeland sought advice from his former co-clerks on whether to bring up their past. Ultimately, they decided to let it go and focus on building their future together. Six months later, they were a committed couple and decided to move in together.

Their love story culminated in a magical wedding at the George Peabody Library in Baltimore, attended by 100 guests and officiated by a Catholic priest. The couple’s shared love for fantasy was evident in the music from iconic movie soundtracks and an excerpt from a Tolkien poem that added a whimsical touch to their special day.

As they embark on this new chapter of their lives, Joelle and Mr. Copeland serve as a reminder that love can truly conquer all, even in the midst of a pandemic and a forgotten first date.
