The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) will be closed on March 29 for Good Friday, with trading in various segments suspended for the day. Both NSE and BSE will resume trading on Monday, April 1. Looking ahead, the upcoming stock market holidays in April 2024 include Id-Ul-Fitr (Ramadan Eid) on April 11 and Ram Navami on April 17.
In the financial year’s last trading session, the benchmark indices saw gains, with the Sensex rallying nearly 1,200 points before closing at 73,651, up 0.9 per cent. The Nifty also rose 0.9 per cent to 22,326. These gains have contributed to the indices’ impressive performance this fiscal year, with the Nifty Midcap and Nifty Smallcap indices surging 60 per cent and 70 per cent, respectively.
The realty, CPSE, and infra indices have also seen significant gains, with some sectors recording over 100 per cent growth during the year. Cash market volumes on the NSE remained strong, with key metrics showing positive signs for the market.
Looking at global markets, most Asian indices ended in the red on Thursday, while European indices were trading marginally in the green. In the US, indices ended higher, with the S&P 500 hitting a fresh high. The UK, however, fell into a shallow recession last year.
Investors will be keeping an eye on upcoming data releases in the US, as well as speeches from the US Fed Chair and the RBI’s monetary policy committee meeting scheduled for next week.
