Drift, a decentralized exchange (DEX) on the Solana network, is making waves in the crypto world as it prepares to airdrop 100 million DRIFT governance tokens. This move is part of Drift’s strategic shift towards a more community-driven governance model, where token holders will have a say in key operational decisions.
The airdrop, scheduled for the coming weeks, follows a successful three-month points program that attracted a diverse group of participants, including traders, borrowers, lenders, and airdrop farmers. Existing Drift users will receive 10% of DRIFT’s total supply as a reward for their support of the platform.
The majority of the tokens, 43%, are earmarked for ecosystem development to grow the active Drift user base through trading rewards, future airdrops, and incentives for providing liquidity. Venture capital firms like Polychain Capital and Multicoin Capital, along with individual angel investors such as Solana founders Anatoly Yakovenko and Raj Gokal, will receive a 22% allocation of the total DRIFT tokens. Additionally, 25% of the tokens will be dedicated to protocol development to compensate Drift’s contributors.
Drift offers various trading options, including perpetuals trading with up to 20x leverage and spot trading. The platform is also introducing a feature for betting on tokens that have not yet launched, although the DRIFT token itself will be exempt from this due to legal restrictions.
